Materials
Achieving perfect results in fabrication requires understanding what materials can be machined and what are their properties as different materials behave differently. Also each material can be processed by different machines. For example wood is not good for water jet cutting however stainless steel can be perfectly cut on both water jet and metal laser cutter.
To provide better understanding on what machine can do with specific material we have put together this database. Materials listed on this page are the once Laser-CutZ uses most commonly, we probably can work with other materials not listed here, we will be updating list as we go. If material you need not listed here or you need to work with it even though it’s not technically possible we still may be able to find solution for your request as we have access to different fabrication machines.
Our laser machine is capable of cutting and etching various types of organic materials. Most common is acrylic aka plexi glass. Each material has its own physical properties, advantages and disadvantages. If you working on mechanical design you should understand your material implication pretty well. On another hand if you working on aesthetics and visual design in most cases you would only care about how easy is to cut or engrave in given medium. It is always better to work with materials that are easier to cut, as end quality will be better.
we need some help with laser cutting on garolite (glass fabric laminate with an epoxy resin) sheet. the dimensions of the slots to be made on garolite sheets are 0.04 in wide, 24 inch long and 1/8 inch deep, the original garolite sheet is 1/8 inch deep/thick. let me know if you can help. thanks.
Hi, i need to see how material will react on CO2 laser. We can engrave glass and cut most of the plastic including epoxy. So most likely we can help. If you can send us material or schedule appointment we can try on the spot and see the results!

I am hoping that you can help me out. I have a. dwg file for a project that im working on, problem is there are no dimensions for it in thr file. it was supposed to be sent out to be photoetched. I want to be able to have multiple pieces cut out using his file which is for an ho scale train project(1/87 scale). the file was sent to me to be opened in eviewer so it can be sized to scale for printing az a template, 1:1 scale. I would need it to be cut out of .020″ thick styrene sheet. Wold you be able to help me?
we can cut material and manually reference the scale for you
I’d like to have linoleum sheets engraved for making art prints. What is the largest size that can be engraved? What would it cost for 17×22” for example, if that’s possible? Thanks.
Hi linoleum has phenol in it and under heat it will release harmful flumes so it should not be engraved with laser. However we can do printing on it so we can print any color to imitate engraving. To estimate cost I need to see your linoleum and artwork. Most likely you are looking for few hours charge. Also best to use contact page and not comments page (this is comments page)
I would like to cut 1/2″ maple hardwood with a detailed cutout motif. Is your machine capable?
yes we can do that, though hardwood is usually treated to be “hard” so best if we use CNC to curve wood ornaments vs laser engraving them. Though best method will be determined when we see your artwork.
